Episode 242: Projector + Projector Relationships
One of the most incredible things about Human Design is not only is it a framework to gain insight into ourselves so that we can step into our personal power, but it's also amazing because it provides insight into how we can better our relationships with others.
Since Episode 241 highlighted the insights that Human Design Definitions can provide on relationships, I’m answering listener questions on how two Projectors can navigate relationships in this episode.

Hi there, and welcome back to The Live Fab Life Podcast. I'm your host Naomi Nakamura.
One of the most incredible things about Human Design is not only is it a framework to gain insight into ourselves so that we can step into our personal power, but it's also amazing because it provides insight into how we can better our relationships with others.
The quote I just shared is in the context of romantic partnerships, but Human Design lends insight into all relationships - with friends, family, colleagues, and coworkers – everyone we’re involved with.
So, we received several questions on relationships and Human Design when we put the call out for questions for Episode 217, which was the Projectors Q&A episode.
Since I talked about what insights Definitions can provide on relationships in the last episode, Episode 241, I thought I’d follow up this week by answering the relationship questions we didn’t get to in Episode 217.
Although there were several questions, two things were being asked, so I’ve consolidated them into two questions I’m addressing in this episode and the next one.
Today let’s talk about Projector-Projector relationships.
In short, I think Projector-Projector relationships can be such a wonderful match, as I think any matching Types would be – Generator-Generator, Reflector-Reflector, Manifesting Generator- Manifesting Generator - any relationship of matching Types can be amazing because who better to understand and support you than someone who shares your Type and Strategy.
They understand what it means to be a Projector. Not just intellectually, but they embody. They intimately understand your needs, your gifts, and your challenges, and how you’re misunderstood because it’s the same for them too!
So, who better to be able to love and support a Projector than another Projector?!
Projectors are guides who see things that others don’t. With that, they offer efficiency and ways to make things better. When they offer this advice without an invitation, without recognition, it falls flat.
Their incredible insight and genius are missed, not appreciated, and dismissed. They can be perceived as bossy and overstepping.
But how amazing would it be to have someone else who has those same gifts, a fellow Projector, as your partner?! Whereas another may misconstrue, misinterpret, or simply not appreciate what Projectors have to offer, another Projector can relate and offer their Projector partner what they need and want. When reciprocated and mutually practiced, what a beautiful partnership!
In Episode 225, I talked about invitations and how we can create invitations by extending invitations and recognition to others. So, what better relationship to be in than to understand that your partner, colleague, friend, or relative needs to be invited to experience all they have to offer?
Many years ago, one of my closest friends had just started a relationship with her now-husband. After a few months of dating, she got upset at me because she thought that I hadn’t shown interest in her new relationship and that I didn’t support it, which was far from the truth.
I honestly didn’t know if she wanted my opinion, as I’m not one to offer it unless asked. This was long before I’d even heard about Human Design, and even then, I had a natural inclination not to offer input until asked.
Once I explained that I didn’t think my opinion about her relationship mattered, she got it, and since then, she’s understood that if she wants to know what I think, she has to ask.
This is just another way that, unknowingly, I was already living my design as a Projector whose Strategy is to wait for invitations.
Imagine being a Projector in a relationship with another Projector who understands that they need to extend recognition to their partner because, more than anything, Projectors have a deep need to be recognized. We need recognition and being in a relationship with someone who not just knows but truly understands it and tends to this need; well, what better way to feel seen and heard? It’s having your needs met.
Projectors are incredibly sensitive people, so being tenderly cared for can create a deep, connected relationship.
Projectors understand that when they're in alignment with their design, they find and feel success, and when they’re not in alignment, they feel bitter.
So not only can an aware Projector recognize when they’re in alignment or not, they can recognize it in their Projector partner and support them through that process of coming back into alignment with their design. There's an opportunity for tender recognition to happen in Projector-Projector relationships.
And then, of course, with Projectors being non-Sacral beings, having undefined Sacral centers, energy management is critical to their well-being. They must allow themselves time for rest and rejuvenation. Having partnerships that respect this and allow them the time and space, respecting boundaries for it, and speaking as a Projector is everything.
Whereas someone who is a Sacral being, a Generator or Manifesting Generator, who has defined Sacral center, consistent lifeforce energy may not relate to this. Intellectually, they may know and support it, but not in the way a fellow non-Sacral person or a fellow Projector does because they need it themselves.
All the things that are “shadows” for Projectors, like perhaps not upholding boundaries around the need for rest or feeling bitter after inserting themselves in situations without invitations, coming across as “bossy” because they see how things can be done improved offering unsolicited advice, or even not recognizing their own genius – a Projector partner can relate and even recognize it in their partners because it’s part of their own DNA and, if aware, can lovingly point things out to them.
Or, if you’re the Projector who’s into Human Design, but your partner doesn’t know a thing about Human Design, you, knowing their design anyway, know their needs, gifts, and even shadows before even perhaps they know it themselves. You can support them with this awareness and help them step into their own personal power.
Projector-Projector relationships and all matching Type relationships can be supportive and create loving relationships between people, whether romantic partnerships, friendships, family members, or colleagues.
But specifically, Projector-Projector relationships are ones where the partners can deeply see and recognize each other, which is essential to Projectors, and who better to be able to provide what the other needs. They have intimate knowledge, not just knowledge, but the embodiment of knowing what it means to be a Projector and being able to relate to their Projector partner in a way no other can.
