Hello there, my friend! Welcome back to The Live Fab Life Podcast. I'm your host, Naomi Nakamura.

Today I’m answering another question: “How can Projectors make a living in this world?”

When I first read it, there's a couple of thoughts that first came to mind. Now, I don't know the person who asked this question, so I don't know what their experience in Human Design is, or how knowledgeable are about it. Have they done any personal study of Human Design? Have they had a formal Human Design reading before? Or have they found Human Design on Instagram and started some accounts, and that’s the extent of their knowledge?

I bring this up because I find the question curious: "How can a Projector make a living in this world?” It sounds like there may be a bit of a misunderstanding of how Human Design works as well as Project aura. I see this come up often, which is why I always advocate having a solid understanding of your aura – Type, Strategy, and Authority.

Asking the question, “How can a Projector make a living in this world?” sounds like there’s the assumption that Projectors are limited in what they can do. And that’s simply not true.

Nothing about Human Design is limiting. Just because you're a Projector doesn't mean that there are only certain things you can do and things you cannot do. It’s simply not what Human Design is or how it works.

Let’s revisit the Projector aura.

We know that all Projectors have undefined Sacral centers, making them “non-Sacral” beings. So, energy management is critical for Projectors. I mean, energy management is important for everyone, particularly Projectors and the other non-Sacrals, because they simply don’t have the Sacral energy consistently available to them – the lifeforce energy that keeps someone going and going and going – like the Energizer Bunny.

This is why non-Sacrals, and for the sake of this conversation, Projectors, need to balance how much they rest with how much they work and how much they play. I think this influences people's perceptions of Projectors’ abilities of what they can and cannot do.

But the thing is, nothing about Human Design limits you. Rather, it's a matter of how you use and manage your energy. It’s energy management. It’s a matter of you using your energy in the most efficient way possible - for you.

And I added on that “for you” because how I use my energy as a Projector is still going to be different than how you use your energy, also as a Projector. Our auras are the same, but there are other parts of your Human Designs that aren’t – and we’ll get into that in a bit.

So, rather than believing there are things that you can and can’t do as a Projector, it's how you manage your energy doing it.

And that’s the end of my Ted Talk it’s the bottom line. But it isn’t all I have to say on this because you all know that brevity is not my strong point – hence why I have a podcast.

One of my favorite things to do is to look up the Human Designs of people in my life, but also of famous people. So, I want to share with you the designs of a few famous Projectors, people that I’m positive that you know, to demonstrate the potential that Projectors have.

First, President Barack Obama, former president of the U.S. who’s a 6/2 Emotional Projector. As the President of the United States, he was the leader of the free world. I don’t know about you, but I always wonder why anyone would want the job of President, not just of the US, but any head of state role.

There are always who will scrutinize and criticize you, no matter what you do. You’ll never please everyone. On top of that, your life isn’t yours anymore. You’re a public servant with no set working hours, hectic schedules, and on-call 24/7. It requires a lot of energy.

Since President Obama was re-elected to a second term, serving 8 years, the maximum number of years a person can serve as the US President, I’d say most Americans thought he did a pretty good job. Perfect? No, no one is perfect, but he was elected again, meaning he must’ve been doing some things right. And he’s a Projector.

Another famous person who’s a Projector is Emma Watson, who’s a 5/2 Splenic Projector. I’m a huge Emma Watson fan - huge.

She started her acting career when she was nine years old, appearing in the first of eight Harry Potter movies that spanned over a decade to make.

She’s now in her 30’s, which means she has been a working actor for 23 of her 32 years, not just memorizing lines and acting but also doing all the promotional work – press tours, media interviews, etc.

Once the Harry Potter films ended, she went to university at Brown University, which is an Ivy League school that has very high standards, and graduated!

She’s gone on to make more movies like The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Beauty and the Beast, and Little Women, worked with the United Nations, and she’s on the board of directors for a huge fashion brand, I forget the name of the company, but it's one company that Salma Hayek’s husband is head of. She's on the board of directors leading the brand’s sustainability efforts.

So, Emma Watson is someone who’s had a lot of demands on her since she wasn’t even 10 years old! But, even as a Projector, she's accomplished much and continues to do so.

Now, I wanted to find someone in the business or sporting world, but the database with famous people's Human Designs is tedious, and the usability isn’t great.

So, the third Projector I want to highlight is Taylor Swift – and I think everyone knows who she is.

She's a 5/1 Splenic Projector, and I just want to share an interesting observation that I’ve made in looking at several celebrities’ Human Designs. Many of them have a 5 Line in their Profile Lines which is super interesting because the 5 line is about leadership and who people look to for guidance to help guide them through whatever they're going through.

Whether they realize it or not, most of these celebrities have probably never heard of Human Design before, but they have influential energy on others. People, their fans, look to them for guidance through their work - Emma Watson and her acting – her character, Hermione Granger, has influenced a generation of girls. And then Taylor Swift through her music. Incredibly influential 5-lines.

And the thing about those with a 5-line is that it’s important for them to know when their “work” is done so they can retreat, rest and recharge in preparation for the next group of people who need their guidance.

And we’ve seen this in the ebbs and flows of the careers of Emma Watson and Taylor Swift. In the time they take between films and albums, they are not only in alignment with their 5th Line but also their Projector aura in managing their energy with periods for rest and recharge.

But back to Taylor Swift. She’s been a hugely popular musician – a singer, performer, and songwriter since she was young. And now, in her 30’s, she’s still as popular as ever – longevity.

I share these examples with you to demonstrate that there are no limitations on what Projectors can do to make a living in this world.

What resonated with me when I learned I’m a Projector is the synchronicities of the Projector aura with the work that I do, both in my full-time job as a Program / Project Manager and in my side work as a coach.

The nature of both those fields of work is seeing the big picture and leading cross-functional teams collaborating on a program or project. We need to see the big picture of how all the dependencies, the moving pieces, must synchronize to reach the common goal.

There’s also the need to see the big picture of the dynamics among the group - how they interact and complement or conflict with each other - to preempt potential conflicts, setbacks, or roadblocks.

As a coach, I do the same thing, look at the big picture of my client's situations.

As a health coach, for example, if a client comes to be because they can't sleep, and it’s to the point where it’s debilitating, we look at the physical things preventing them from sleeping, but we also go beyond that. What are the things that are causing them not to be able to get into a rested and relaxed state?

And so, along with being able to see the big picture, Projectors are also guides. They guide the energy of the collective, and in both works that I do, that’s what I’m doing. As a coach, I’m just guiding clients’ energy. Most people have the answers they seek within themselves; they just need someone to guide them and help them navigate through the process to help them get to where it is they want to be.

So, learning about the Projector aura hit home for me. It validated that I’m doing work that’s aligned with my design. Both are very different roles, but they align with the Projector's aura.

And in addition to that, I, fortunately, work from home 100% of the time and have for over a decade.

I have autonomy over my schedule in both roles, so I can manage it in a way that supports prioritizing rest, so I can manage my energy in a way that meets my Projector needs.

So, to sum things up, this episode could have been just one minute to say, you can make money however you want to – legally - as a Projector.

You can do anything you want, anything you're good at. It comes down to how you manage your energy while doing it and your Human Design which is your personalized roadmap on how you can do that.

You can make a living and earn money any way you want, so the question becomes, what is it that you want to do? What is it that you're good at? How do you want to be making a living in this world?

Without knowing who this person who asked this question, some things that I’m curious about are:

Do you know what you want to do and what you're good at? Or are you looking for something new to do?

I guess I’m trying to get at that I don't know if this person is just starting out in their career. Maybe this Projector is just finishing their education and trying to decide their next steps, or are they looking for direction for a side hustle?

There are a couple of things that I want to point you toward as you seek these answers:

Recognize what you’re good at. Have confidence in your gifts - acknowledge them and give yourself permission to explore them as a stream of income. If you are just starting your career, give yourself the permission and space to pursue what you want to do versus settle for something because it's what you went to school for or it pays well. I can't tell you how many people I know who went to MBA school and hate working in business or went to law school and found that life as an attorney damages their health. They’re crumbling because it's no longer aligned for them or is what they want to do.

So, practice self-observation with non-judgment and ask yourself: What is it that I truly want to do, and how can you make it happen?

When I started my coaching practice, I didn't know if I wanted to pursue it to replace my full-time job or keep it as a side hustle because my full-time job feels aligned with my Projector aura. And as of right now, I don't feel a need (yet) to pursue it full-time. I'm not saying that it never will, and I'm not saying that I don't want to; I'm saying that right now, I'm happy with how things are.

So, have confidence in yourself and acknowledge what you're good at, or even if there are things that you don’t feel good at, but you want to learn and build expertise.

If you aren’t sure what direction to take, there are other parts of your Human Design that you can look to.

First, Strategy. Strategy plays a big part in our work and how we make a living in this world. Think about a Projector who works in Sales. I've used this as an example in Episode 225 on Projector Invitations.

Projectors' strategy is to wait for invitations, and it’s challenging because waiting for an invitation requires patience, self-awareness, and discernment - being able to recognize when there’s an energetic receptivity to you and what you’re offering. But it’s not how we’ve been conditioned to operate in our Sacral-dominated world.

So, think about a Projector who works in sales, who must do a lot of cold calling. You're not waiting for invitations by cold calling. Yet it’s a sales strategy that’s widely practiced and accepted as a best practice in selling.

But you’re a Projector – your strategy is not to initiate or respond, as they are for Manifestors, Generators, and Manifesting Generators. But you’re out there, cold calling, and things fall flat. You’re not getting sales and not finding success.

Projectors who experience this end up telling themselves or being told that they're not good at Sales, and they might end up being fired from their job because in Sales, if you don't meet your numbers, you don't have a job.

But does that mean that Projectors can't sell? Of course not; that’s not what that means at all.

What it means is that Projectors need to go about selling differently than Manifestors, Generators, and Manifesting Generators sell. If you want to hear more about the Projector Strategy of waiting for invitations, listen to Episode 225.

When making a living in this world, having awareness of your Projector Strategy is critical to your success.

Other parts of your Human Design to look at in considering how to make a living in this world are:

Your G-Center: is it defined, or is it undefined for you? The G-Center is about identity, love, and direction in life. So, what direction do you move in when making a living in this world?

Your Incarnation Cross, which is your life theme. It’s not going to tell you what to do, but it sheds light on your life's theme. What’s your purpose? How are you meant to contribute to the world? It’s very purpose-driven.

Your profile lines. I talked about Emma Watson, and Taylor Swift having the 5-line in their designs.

Your authority in deciding how you want to make a living.

One thing that I would consider if I were at the time trying to decide how, as a Projector, I can make a living in the world is to look at what the demands of the role or the profession are and if I’ll have the opportunity or autonomy to control my schedule so I can manage my energy and incorporate periods of rest – however that best looks like for me in a particular situation.

So, the question becomes, what do you want to do? What's stopping you from doing it?

And then are you following your Projector Strategy? What other areas of your design can illuminate how you can make a living in this world?

If you haven't yet had a formal Human Design reading, I invite you to book a reading with me to dive into all these things in your design – your Projector aura, your Type and Strategy, and your Authority. We look at your Profile lines, your Signature, and Not-Self. This is what we cover in the Beginner level reading. In the Intermediate level reading, we dive deeper into your design and look at your nine energy centers because there's a lot to be gleaned from your energy centers. They determine your Type, Strategy, and Authority, and we also look at your incarnation cross. So that is going one layer deeper.

And then, if you want to go even deeper in an Advanced level reading, we look at your Variables, and actually, next week's episode is going to touch on the Variables, kind of in relation to this topic.

So that's all I have for you this week. I love having these community questions come in; a lot of them are on Projectors, but I'm happy to answer any questions regardless of if it's Projector-related or not.
